Most reviews of this product show it to be mediocre at best. Most of the shared comments we read were unfortunately very poor. The Badger Five had more one star reviews than five-star reviews. Many reviews listed a cracked housing after only a couple years of use and that was the single biggest reason they were pushed into buying a different brand.
Some of the more common things mentioned were that the 1/2 hp Dura-drive induction motor is louder than other models however it was still said to be quieter than the older standard models that this unit replaced. Also, galvanized steel while corrosive resistant is not as durable as stainless steel. When compared to Waste Kings 5 year warranty for the same horse power and at the same price point this warranty is somewhat lacking.
Insinkerator Badger 5 is the most common disposal found in new homes. It is very often marketed to contractors, property management and land lords at whole sale prices. It is an inexpensive model in a plastic housing that typically lasts 3-5 years. Some reviewers have had good luck with this unit but from all the other lower rated reviews it seems that is just what is was luck as that has not been the norm according to all the reviews we found. It is designed to fit a certain price point. While it enjoys great popularity with contractors and handy men this is due more to its easy install than its performance. One reviewer even shared that his plumber had installed this same model four times in an eight year span before he decided to try a different model. The Badger 5 is not the best performing nor is it the best bargain out there at this price point. While other reviewers state it has performed solidly, the majority of poor reviews of this product far outnumber the good.
