I can’t play on this!” but you’re running late so you drive to the gig anyway. Now you get dirty looks from the director and since you’re late he thinks you’re a trombone player. All through the job you keep think, “I need to buy a new mute that just sounds great, instead of this piece of… Oh I missed a Que!”.
Has this happened to you? Choosing the best trumpet cup mute can be easy and fun. The trumpet cup mute looks similar to the straight mute except that there is a complete covering of the bell. The adjustable cup moves up and down the straight part of the mute in order for the player to vary the sound, volume and tonal quality. This moveable cup is easy and fast. If you push the cup tightly against the bell you will get a quiet stopped, however rich trumpet sound. Move the cup farther down the shaft, away from the bell, and hear a louder rich “Big Band” sound.
