The key to choosing

The different types of trumpets are generally distinguished by their keys. The most common type you will see is the B flat. This is the type usually used in jazz concerts and ensembles, and even in rock bands. The C trumpet is mostly used for orchestras. Before the B flat type became popular, the widely-used types were the D and the F trumpet. The other types like E flat, E and G are trumpets that are rarely used today. The last of the types of trumpets is the piccolo trumpet-small in size and an octave higher than the B flat trumpet.

Range of experience

The type of trumpet you buy should also depend on your experience as a trumpet musician. Some stores categorize their instruments into beginner, intermediate and professional. The advanced models will naturally have more features. If you’re learning to play the trumpet for the first time, it’s better to buy the beginner model. After several years of experience, you can eventually shift to a higher model that will fit your needs.
