The MADRE Project involves 7 partners from Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Albania with complementary expertise and scientific know-how on environmental and green space management, strategic urban planning, agriculture and food:

AViTeM is a public agency whose purpose is to ensure a sustainable urban and territorial development in the Mediterranean area. Founded in 2012, AviTeM provides a link between the French state – The General Commission for Territorial Equality (CGET) and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development – local authorities – the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, the metropolis of Aix-Marseille Provence and the metropolis of Nice Côte d’Azur – and the public establishment Euroméditerranée. AviTeM’s main goal is to establish a system for experience sharing, expertise, training and cooperation in order to promote integrated and exemplary approaches to urban and regional development amongst stakeholders from France and Union for the Mediterranean countries.

Initiated in 2002, ANIMA Investment Network is a multi-country cooperation platform for economic development in the Mediterranean. The ANIMA network gathers 80 government agencies and business network, financing and innovation around the region. ANIMA’s objective is to contribute to the continued improvement of the Mediterranean business climate, and investment growth in the Mediterranean region. The ANIMA network is operated from Marseille (France) and is chaired by Khalil Laabidi, General Manager, FIPA Tunisia. The majority of its funding comes from the management of international donor programs.

  • CIHEAM-MAIM  

    (International Center for Advanced Mediterranean agronomic Studies – Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier)

As an intergovernmental organization of 13 Mediterranean countries, specialized in agriculture, CIHEAM-IAMM has developed a solid experience on technical and economic aspects on food security and nutrition in the MED area. Through training and research methods anchored in field experience, it has developed capitalization methodologies to describe and address challenges on interactions between rural and urban areas leading to sustainable territorial development. It implements cooperation projects on local development, public policies for fostering agriculture and food processing in the Mediterranean Basin.

MedCities is a network that gathers cities from all shores of the Mediterranean basin. It was created in Barcelona in November 1991 as a vehicle for empowering municipalities in respect of urban development issues. MedCities has extensive experience and has been active on urban sustainable development, and strategic planning, including metropolitan and peri-urban agriculture. Involvement will be seek especially from the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) authority, MedCities member and host of its General Secretariat, which embraces 36 municipalities and 3 M inhabitants. It has several experiences in the promotion of agrarian reactivation (agroecology and food sovereignty) and deals with territorial planning and green spaces management

The Metropolitan City of Bologna is located in the Emilia-Romagna Region and includes 1 M inhabitants, 8 Unions of Municipalities and 55 Municipalities. The Department of Economic Development works on stimulating the local economic development by its programming power, enforcing and creating networks and synergies between the main local actors and stakeholders. Metropolitan agriculture has been identified as a priority by the Metropolitan Strategic Plan adopted in 2013.

The Laboratory of Heat Transfer and Environmental Engineering (LHTEE) belongs to the Energy Section of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Aristotle University Thessaloniki, Greece. LHTEE conducts research focused on the interactions between Environment, Economy and Energy. Among other research areas, it deals with sustainable growth and urban sustainability, strategic planning for urban areas/public authorities and research on innovative environmental friendly management practices.

Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) is the main centre of agricultural education and the Department of Economy and Rural Development Policies (DERDP) is a unique research unit dealing with agricultural and rural development policies in Albania, modern agriculture, food security, food safety and environment. It assists the Albania government in development and implementation of policies in above mentioned topics.
